ICACOS BAY
There's no greater joy than sailing
to Icacos Cay on a sunny breezy day! The local fishermen's
sloops are a wonderful way to day sail to this, most beautiful
of all keys off the Northeast tip of Puerto Rico. Icacos Cay
is in the Cordillera Reserve administered by the Department
of Natural Resources. Sailing there takes about an hour and
the trip back is straight downwind and takes around a half
hour.
The Fishermen of Las Croabas are some of the last who are
barely able to support themselves from the sea. Two or three
of the fishermen supplement their income by taking passengers,
on their sailboats, to Icacos Cay for the day. The younger
generation of fishermen prefer motorboats and will take you
from the Las Croabas Dock to Icacos Cay, then return and pick
you up later.
